In an austere country manor, distinguished by its over-the-top interior design and omniscient security system, an aging popular novelist waits for the arrival of the younger man who has stolen his wife. Their friendly drink quickly mutates into a proposed shady collaboration, a spiraling battle of wits and, ineluctably, violence. Milo tries to establish his territory by cutting the older man down to size, while the wealthy Andrew lords his success over the hungry up and comer. But their head games – born equally of jealousy and humiliation – soon spin out of control. The fantastic chemistry between Caine and Law as their characters spar physically, verbally and libidinously amid the yawning spaces of the mansion results in a deliciously twisted mix of drama, grisly humor and whiplash turns of fortune.
